Deanna Rice is CEO of the award winning Da Suga Foundation, Inc.  While working as a Registered Nurse at the Veterans Administration Health System, Rice noticed an alarming number of veterans being admitted to the hospital for complications of diabetes.  One patient of note was admitted after stepping on an object the week prior during a family vacation.  His foot was wrapped in a wash cloth and a plastic bag.  When the bag was removed, Rice discovered an infection between his toes.  By the time it was noticed, it was too late.  The gentleman was taken to surgery and his toe was amputated.  Rice asked the patient if he had diabetes, and the patient replied he didn't know anything about diabetes but he knew he had "da suga". That's when "Da Suga" Foundation was born.
